Like all co-ops, it is run by its members---parents who are involved in all aspects of the school's program and operation. At Woodvale, play is recognized and valued as an essential part of a child's developing years because the foremost ways in which they learn about the world are through play and the experiences offered to them. At Woodvale Playschool we offer a "Play-Based" Learning Program as unique as each enrolled child. This program includes activities such as crafts, games, stories, music, baking, sand and water play, indoor and outdoor play, and much more! Unique to Woodvale PlayschoolDepending on your child's age and the class they are registered in, your child will have the opportunity to learn through "Animated Literacy" and "Handwriting Without Tears". Students discuss the days of the week and months of the year through circle time. They learn about the seasons with "weather bear" and by looking for clues in their environment. Classes are themed throughout the year around child interest and have included: recycling, environmental awareness, various cultural celebrations, community involvement (the giving tree, hop for muscular dystrophy), dinosaur study, field trips, teddy bear picnics, sports day, space, ocean, fall harvest, friendship day and an un-birthday party to name a few.School History and Teacher's Message to the Parents:The Woodvale Playschool is a non-profit organization and was founded by members of the Woodvale Community to provide a play-based learning program that the children love and fosters the enjoyment of learning. The underlying belief is that when young children are enjoying the learning process they retain what they learn more effectively. As early childhood educators, we aim to be sensitive and supportive of each child's right to dignity and self-worth, and to make the classroom a place where respect for all is nurtured. Our curriculum objectives are to plan and implement the play-based programs so that it is meaningful to the children, enjoyable, creative, relevant, and able to foster their learning potential. As the months progress we accumulate a whole year of playing, exploring, celebrating, learning and sharing whereby each day for the year becomes a day the children fondly remember and will cherish! |
