Playschool Programs
What can you expect your child to learn and experience at Woodvale Playschool?
Social Development
At the school we help the children adjust to being away from home by building trust through emotional connection and a caring environment. Co-operative play and sharing programs are used to evolve their social skills. We help them explore and interact with the world around them with in-house and bussed out field trips, celebrations, games and songs.
Emotional Development
We promote an empathetic environment whereby the children are encouraged to express their feelings and have those feelings validated. We look for emotional expressions and body language, and then ask the children to talk about what they are experiencing. This teaches the children to understand themselves and others emotionally and to develop shills in expressing their feelings.
Individual Development
In order to stimulate self-actualization we encourage the children to embrace their ideas, start tasks and finish projects. By encouraging creativity though "brainstorming sessions", the students are then assisted to put their ideas to work through projects, participation in a variety of learning centers, art, building and role-playing.
Physical Development
Students are encouraged to participate in activities designed to develop large muscle growth through games, gross motor apparatus, action songs, dramatics and outdoor play. We also have a large recreation area in the basement with an indoor play structure, small basketball hoop and ride on toys for the cooler months. Small muscle growth and hand-eye coordination are developed though the use of play dough, building blocks, scissors, glue, paints, crayons, chalkboards, and puzzles to name a few.
Intellectual Development
Flannel boards, books, puzzles, blocks, play dough and visual boards are just a few of the tools used to stimulate young minds. Helping children develop their imaginations aids them with memory retention, language and vocabulary comprehension, and the understanding of concepts like space, time and size.
Character Development
Good character development and virtues are universal. At the school we teach morals and ethics regardless of race, religion, or age. Honesty is encouraged at times of conflict resolution. Patience is promoted by allowing the children time to process and evaluate. Respect is developed by teaching appreciation for others choices, time and space.
